Planning Language Access from a -Informed Framework

Audience

This training is intended for direct service supervisors, executive directors, and leadership who are tasked with planning and implementing language access in their agencies, or those who support staff and volunteers in providing sexual assault direct services. However, any victim service agency staff person or allied professional interested in this topic is welcome to attend

Summary

In this two-day intensive training presented by Casa de Esperanza and the National Latin@ Network is adapted from the National Latin@ Network’s Language Access Toolkit. Participants will build on their understanding of language accessibility needs from a culturally-responsive and trauma-informed perspective, learn methods to create access in communities with limited resources, and learn out to develop language access plans that are responsive to their communities.

Presenters 

Heidi Notario, M.A.: Heidi serves as the Director of Implementation & Social Change at the National Latin@ Network for Healthy Families and Communities and Casa de Esperanza. Prior to joining Casa’s team, Heidi was the Training Specialist at the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence (NRCDV). She has expertise on issues related to accessibility through her work at the intersections of disabilities and violence against women.

Olga Trujillo, J.D.: Olga is an attorney, speaker, author, and survivor. Her experience over the past 27 years has been as an attorney for the US Department of Justice, and as a consultant to many local, state, and national organizations. Olga is an internationally sought speaker and author and is featured in the video “A Survivor’s Story,” a documentary and training video based on her personal experience of violence.

Overnight Accommodations will be made available to PA Sexual Assault Center Staff who are travelling over 75 miles. Overnight accommodations arranged by PCAR for these qualifying individuals are limited to the first 20 requestors. This page will be updated if those spots are no longer available. Individuals traveling from the same center may share rooms if appropriate. Please note if you will be sharing a room and with whom on your registration form.
