1:00PM-2:30PM
Free Webinar

Audience

This webinar is for law enforcement, prosecutors, sexual assault nurse examiners, advocates, and allied professionals.

Summary

It’s been just over a year since Pennsylvania’s new strangulation law has been enacted. The law makes nonfatal strangulation a criminal offense. The act of strangulation not only has a horrifying effect on victims, it can cause serious injury, and have future health consequences. Since strangulation may often go undetected in sexual assault victims, responders need to know how to detect it and how to best help victims.

After completion of this webinar, participants should be able to:
a) Explore the intersection of strangulation and sexual violence;
b) Define strangulation using PA law;
c) Identify modes of strangulation;
d) Discuss signs and symptoms of strangulation; and
e) Offer policy and protocol recommendations.
