WE'RE ON A MISSION
The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape is working to eliminate all forms of sexual violence and to advocate for the rights and needs of victims of sexual assault.
PCAR's Training and Technical Assistance Team provides trainings on a wide variety of topics specific to your needs. Please contact us to schedule a training in your area.
Prevention, at its core, is about changing social norms and beliefs that make violence acceptable in society. Sexual violence is connected to all forms of oppression, but sexism (or the belief that women and girls are less valuable than men and boys), is one of the strongest forces. Although the anti-sexual violence and feminist movements have done tremendous work and education around sexism and how harmful it is to women and girls, men and boys have not historically been part of this conversation.
* This Technical Assistance Bulletin will offer suggestions and provide resources for agencies looking to engage men as part of sexual violence prevention.
Men Against Sexual Violence (MASV) is one of the nation's first campaigns that enlists men to work collaboratively with women in the effort to end sexual violence. From its launch in 2001, there have been numerous MASV chapters formed in Pennsylvania. These chapters act as social change agents to achieve a sense of community and responsibility among men and to engage them in the anti-sexual violence movement. Some of their activities around the Commonwealth include recruiting nationally-renowned speakers such as Jackson katz; pledge signings on local campuses; and displays at community events.
To learn more about how to engage men in your area, download the free Toolkit Training Curriculum below or to start a MASV chapter, please contact us.
